DESCRIPTION

The Seagate Country Club is a 300-acre layout designed by “Gentleman” Joe Lee in 1973. Today, Lee’s course flows along much as it did in 1973, within The Hamlet residential community. When the course first opened, Seagate’s low-profile, old-school layout was known as “The Hamlet of Delray Beach” and at that time it was among the first private clubs in the State of Florida.

Joe Lee enjoyed a long and successful career, especially in Florida, having served as a partner of famous architect, Dick Wilson… and Wilson got his start with the even more heralded William Flynn! Peter Kostis was the first head pro at The Hamlet, Jim Flick was its teaching professional and Laura Baugh was its touring professional - hard to beat those names! Flick actually started the first Golf Digest School at The Hamlet.  The course was also a favorite of Sam Snead, “It’s a pleasure to play a course which requires placement and maneuvering of your shots, so you have to do more than just bang away at your ball.”  These qualities should remain at the foundation of any course.

In 2012, the club was purchased and renamed as The Seagate Country Club. In 2013, the course received its most significant facelift, a renovation executed at the direction of architect Gene Bates with some design consultation by PGA touring professional, Jeff Sluman, also a member of the club.  In addition to the members, the Club is also open to patrons who are guests of The Seagate Hotel & Spa.

According to Gentleman Joe, “Golf is a sport to be enjoyed.  The designer shouldn’t make it a life-or-death struggle.”  Those are pretty sage words to live by!  We'll definately follow that directive as we look to improve the course, including Infrastructure replacements (tees, greens, bunkers, irrigation, turf, paths, etc.) as well as enhancements to the overall playing experience.
