DESCRIPTION
Andover was an opportunity for me to return to the Bluegrass and to Lexington, where I earned my Landscape Architecture degree at the University of Kentucky. In fact, Andover was being constructed while I was in school at UK and I recall that my entire class was given a tour of the on-going work - originally designed and executed by Clyde Johnston, ASGCA. That was one of the first times I witnessed a new golf course coming out of the ground.
The course is laid out on ground that was formerly a horse farm - now developed as a residential golf community. Our efforts at Andover have revolved around improving the bunkering... making the bunkers less numerous, yet more effective strategically and more manageable to maintain. I guess you could say a true, "less is more" approach toward improvement.
